Question: What is Life Coaching? And What is a Survivor coach?
Answer:
Life Coaching is a profession that partners with people to help them develop a life vision and make that vision a reality. A life coach is trained to provide clients with tools and guidance to create rewarding personal and professional lives. Life coaching consist of an individualized program that helps people identify ad achieve their goals and life vision. The difference between a Life Coach and a therapist is a therapist works in the past and takes the client from dysfunctional to functional; the life coach works in the “now” and takes the client from functional to optimal.
A survivor coach has a unique understanding of the issues a survivor deals with such as fear of recurrence, relationship strains, marital discord, work limitations, financial headaches and loss of purpose or meaning in their life. They usually have experienced cancer or have someone close to them with the disease so they understand the road that they have been on and the road they want to be on.
Question: Why did you want to be a survivor coach?
Answer:
I had stage III breast cancer in 2006 and after treatment I thought I would go back to where my life left off. It was an anxious and lonely place because when I finished treatment I wasn’t sure what to do next. I felt like a round peg trying to fit into a square hole. I just didn’t feel like my old self and I didn’t know what to do with the “new normal.” I eventually discovered that cancer was one of the best things that ever happened to me because I found clarity with my life on how I wanted to live the rest of my life.
I became a survivor coach so that I can help other survivors live their “new normal” without the uncertainty that I went through. I enjoy the partnership that I have with my clients discovering their vision for how they want their life to be. It’s exciting and an amazing journey following the steps of empowerment to achieve their success in life.
Question: Why did you name your company Gutsy Lady?
Answer:
I named my company Gutsy Lady because that is who and what it takes to go through the treatment of cancer and come out of it fearless, genuine and authentic to live well after cancer!
Question: How long have you been a life coach and what are your credentials?
Answer:
I graduated from iPEC Coaching School with as a Certified Professional Coach (CPC) and an Energy Leadership Index Master Practitioner (ELI-MP) in 2009. I also am a certified Now What?™ Life Blueprint Facilitator for Laura Berman Fortgang program. I am a member of the International Coaching Federation and Chicago Coaching Federation.
Question: How does coaching work?
Answer:
Life coaching consists of confidential one on one phone, scype or in person conversations designed to make a difference in the quality of your life. As a client, you determine the number of coaching sessions you want per month. In the initial sessions, we will conduct an assessment of your needs and goals. Once we identify your goals we create a clear and actionable plan to turn your goals into a reality. The coaching process will never tell you what to do but will ask you many questions and guide you to use your own instincts and inner wisdom to make positive, tangible changes in your life.
Question: Who hires a coach and how are you different from other coaches?
Answer:
People that hire a coach believe more is possible in their lives. A coach will partner with them and hold them accountable allowing them to achieve their success they desire. Common themes of people that hire a life coach are creating balance in their lives, career change, life transition, relationship issues, etc.
I am unique in that I am a survivor of cancer and understand the experience of living with the “new normal.” I don’t pretend that we have traveled the same road, but I will validate and acknowledge your experience because I have personally suffered in that arena—where as another coach has not. I believe that we are in a true partnership and I will use every tool I know so you can achieve your dreams. I will be present for you and bring my passion, intuition and knowledge to assist you in finding your goals, designing the roadmap, and holding you accountable for achieving those goals.
Question: What results can I expect and how quickly?
Answer:
The results and the timing are up to you. If you have clarity on your goals/vision and you’re ready to take action with whatever it takes attitude—you will move through this experience quickly with life changing and amazing results. Research suggest that people who are coached have greater self-awareness, continue to set better goals for themselves, have a more balanced life with lower stress, and have stronger communication skills with co-workers and family members.
Most coaches ask for a 3 month commitment. This gives you time to develop your vision, chart the roadmap and take the steps to achieve your success. Depending on the goals set, you many choose to continue longer. The choice is always up to you and never obligated to continue services at any time.
Question: Will I recover the investment I put into this program?
Answer:
This is a very important issue for people. I could quote you research that says you will get 100% or more back with this investment but I want to ask you something. What would you pay to feel better about what is bothering you? Let’s imagine 3 months from now, your goal was achieved with a bonus, you learned some insights into your persona. What would that be worth to you?
Question: Do I have to have had cancer to work with you?
Answer:
No, I do work with several clients that never had cancer. I give the same energy to my clients if they have had cancer or have never had cancer. The coaching process remains the same.
Question: What kind of people do you work best with and what is expected of me?
Answer:
I work best with people that are motivated to move forward and live life with gusto. People that are committed to taking action and achieving their life’s dreams are very exciting people to work with. The people that are difficult for me to work with are people that recognize they are stuck but are not committed to do the work that is required to get unstuck and move forward.
The coach’s expectation is that you will do what you say you will do show up on time and give your undivided attention to the call. You will be honest and tell your coach what you are thinking and feeling and listen to what your coach has to say.
